Blood on the Battlefield is a main quest in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It takes place in Kaer Morhen.

It is primarily an interactive cutscene. Don’t write this quest off though! There are two critical decisions that will have either a positive or negative effect on the game’s ending!

The quest opens up with a funeral for those lost during the Battle of Kaer Morhen. You may walk around and talk to everyone at the funeral, if you wish. When you have chatted with everyone and are ready, head down the hill where Yennefer, Triss, Ciri, and Avallac’h are talking. Ciri is not happy with choices being made without her and storms off. A few days will pass and Ciri still cannot get the battle off her mind. She comes to Geralt and asks for advice on how to put it behind her. This is the first critical decision!

Critical Decision #1

“Think I know what might lift your spirits.”- This choice starts a light-hearted snowball fight with Ciri. Hit her eight times to continue the scene. She is happy and relieved. Your ancient method worked and she goes on with her training. This choice has a positive effect on the game’s ending.
“Relax. You don’t have to be good at everything.”- This choice leads to opening some alcohol and drowning sorrows in drink. Ciri loosens up, but is still focused on failing during the battle. This choice has a negative effect on the game’s ending.

The day ends and Geralt is woken up by Ciri the next morning. She knows where Imlerith will be, along with the Crones. They will be on Bald Mountain for the witches’ Sabbath. She wants to go kill them on the way to see Yennefer and Triss. You agree to go with her, but first you two have to decide if you will see the Emperor first. Agreeing to see him, will lead to critical decision number two!. If you chose velen instead of meeting the emperor first, it lead to bald mountain quest directly and Ciri wont become empress at the end. She will become a witcher.

Critical Decision #2

When you arrive at the emperor’s palace. He greets Ciri with her full name. It’s a doozy. He also tries to embarass Geralt in front of Ciri. He presents the White Wolf with the rest of his reward. You may either…

Accept it- This leads Ciri to believe gold was your motivation to find and save her, not your love for her. She is hurt and upset with Geralt. This choice has a negative effect on the game’s ending.
Deny it- Denying the gift makes Ciri happy. Your love for her is reaffirmed by your actions. She reaches out and squeezes your hand. This choice has a positive effect on the game’s ending. Denying the gift will also result in Geralt being awarded a black Nilfgaardian mare instead of the coins.

After Ciri’s private chat with her father and Geralt’s talk with General Voorhis, the game continues on with our duo’s quest to Bald Mountain.
